Florence has a community college, a small airport, art and music groups, numerous churches, doctors, hotels, banks, restaurants and golf courses. All recently built
to meet the needs of this growing and popular community are the Performing Arts Center, boat marina, middle
school, library, hospital wing, animal shelter, senior communities, business and industrial park, and internet service.

Convenient to many major cities, this charming and relaxing community is home to some of the nicest people you could find anywhere. Bustling but small and tidy! Walking areas abound whether it is in Old Town along the wharf and among the shops and on the many trails in the dunes and beach areas.

Florence and the nearby community of Mapleton provide schooling for approximately 2,000 students. Florence is a growing town. Unlike so many Oregon communities which experienced population decreases during the 1980s, Florence has been and is expanding.

Industry and employment centers around tourism, services, fishing, retail, hospital, schools and numerous small businesses.

Tall stands of pine trees extend right into residential areas. Florence's backdrop is the Siuslaw National Forest, one of the nation's most productive tree growing areas.

Recently half a million dollars was spent improving a lighted 3,000 foot runway at the airport. Across the street is a growing industrial park. Local jobs relate primarily to wood products and tourism. Secondarily come commercial fishing and light manufacturing.

About half a mile west of Florence, the Siuslaw River's mouth has been extended by new jetties. Two walls of massive stones jut a quarter mile into the Pacific Ocean. This $30 million project was done to enhance river navigation.

An estimated 62% of Florence's residents have chosen it as home for their senior years. Many of those tend to be active seniors, participating in community singing, travel clubs, nature study groups and volunteer work in government and social services.
Other enhancements to retirement include a 1989 acute care hospital with a growing staff of physicians and new public library on a prominent downtown site.
